Boston Bruins: Friday Night Fight Night

Friday night’s game between the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers was uneventful for those interested in high scoring affairs. However, for those who long for old school hockey, the contest was an entertaining throwback.

Bruins forward Trent Frederic, who has an affinity for a violent brand of hockey, dropped the gloves with the Rangers’ Brendan Lemieux halfway through the second period. Frederic did not appear too pleased with Lemiuex. After the bout, Frederic had some words with the opposing forward across the penalty benches. It sure looked as if Frederic wanted to continue the fight after both forwards fell to the ice.

Defenseman Jeremy Lauzon also dropped the gloves in the second period which was quite unfortunate for Rangers forward Pavel Buchnevich. Lauzon pummeled Buchnevich - there isn’t much more to say.

It’s exciting to see the Bruins youth bringing an old-school style to today's game which has shied away from fighting. These fights were legitimate and captivating. The possibility of any game turning into a Trent Frederic Fight Club gives Bruins fans something to get excited about in addition to the Bruins playing a strong brand of hockey early in the season.
